UCI to have satellite centre in India

The UCI, World Cycling Governing Body has agreed to support the Cycling Academy at New Delhi (SAINCA) by way of declaring it as the satellite centre of UCI’s World Training Centre at Agle (Switzerland). This was decided at the meeting held at Astana during Asian Cycling Championship between Mr. Brian Cookson President UCI and a delegation of CFI lead by its President Sh. P.S Dhindsa included Mr. Onkar Singh, Secretary General and Ms. Bani Ghosh, Treasurer, Cycling Federation of India. Mr. Neeraj Kansal, Secretary of Sport authority of India was also a part of the delegation.

A tripartite agreement will be signed between UCI, CFI & SAI in the July to this effect.

The concerted efforts of this Federation for the last three years have borne fruit and will serve the interest of the cyclists not only from India but from Middle East and East Asian countries also.

“I think New Delhi fits our bill of vision to start an academy in a developing country because I have been following the progress of their cyclist .They have done really well in recent times and I look at this rare opportunity (of an academy ) to help them in a big way particularly and those in the region generally. We, in Great Britain had started in a similar way”, said Cookson.

“It is, indeed a rare honor for the CFI as India will have the first international sports academy to help our cyclist and the rest in the region. It was all possible of our cyclist’ sustained high class performance on the international stage”, said Dhindsa

Mr. Onkar Singh Secretary General CFI thanked sports authority of India for its gesture, who are well aware of importance of this venture. He said that this is a dawn of new era in the horizon of the cycling in the country and soon will have the dream coming true by way of support of the UCI which will give impetus to the ongoing efforts of the CFI to improve the standard of cycling in the Country and its vision of putting India at the International map in this sport.
